Judge Andrea Price Janzen was elected to the bench in July of 1996, as Judge for Section "B" of the Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court. Prior to being elected Judge, Judge Janzen had been an Assistant District Attorney in Jefferson Parish since 1982. As a prosecutor, Judge Janzen worked in the Juvenile Court from 1983 to 1988, where she prosecuted thousands of Child Abuse, Delinquency and Child Support Cases. In 1989, Judge Janzen created the Felony Child Abuse Prosecution Unit of the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office. As Supervisor of that division, she was involved in the prosecution of hundreds of felony cases involving child victims. She has prosecuted child sex abuse cases in Grand Jury Proceedings, and has prosecuted major child abuse cases in state court.
Judge Janzen has served as President of the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; President of the 5th Circuit Judges Association; and Vice President of the 4th and 5th Circuit Judges Association. She is currently a member of the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; the American Bar Association; the Louisiana State Bar Association; and the Jefferson Bar Association. She serves on the board of directors for the 5th Circuit Judges Association, and the Jefferson Parish Children and Youth Planning Board. Judge Janzen is a past board member of A Child's Wish of Greater New Orleans; the Jefferson Twenty-five Political Organization for Women; the Loyola University School of Law Alumni Association; Boystown of Louisiana and the 4th and 5th Circuit Judges Association. She has served as Chairperson for the Louisiana Juvenile Justice Planning and Coordination Board and continues to be active in juvenile justice reform at the state and local levels. Upon recommendation of Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Catherine Kimball, Judge Janzen was appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal to serve on the Louisiana Children's Cabinet.
Judge Janzen earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama and Communications from the University of New Orleans.
