FINS Mission

The Mission of the Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court Families in Need of Services (FINS) Process is to coordinate quality community-based services designed to respond to the needs of children and their families before delinquency develops and to prevent further involvement in the Juvenile Justice system.

FINS Goals

  • Obtain cooperation and coordination to ensure that all public institutions or agencies are made available to meet the needs of the family.
  • Establish an Individual Family Service Plan to prevent delinquency and other legal consequences.
  • Promote healthy family lifestyles.

Who Can Request Assistance?

  • Parents or Caretakers
  • School Personnel
  • Law Enforcement
  • District Attorney
  • Community Agencies

When Should Assistance Be Requested?

  • If youth is struggling with attending school or following school rules.
  • If youth is ungovernable.
  • If youth is a runaway.
  • If youth is struggling with underage drinking OR misrepresenting their age to acquire such beverages OR loitering near areas where alcohol is sold.
  • If youth has committed an offense applicable only to minors, such as gaming, purchasing or using alcohol, tobacco, or vaping products, getting tattoos, etc.
  • If a child under 10 years of age committed any act which if committed by an adult would be a crime under any federal, state, or local law.
  • If a caretaker has caused, encouraged, or contributed to the youth's negative behaviors.
  • If, after notice, the caretaker willfully fails to attend meetings at the youth's educational program.
  • If youth is found incompetent to proceed with a delinquency matter.
  • If the youth has engaged in cyberbullying.
