Hon. Nancy Amato Konrad, Judge, Section C

Image of Judge Konrad Judge Nancy Amato Konrad is the Senior Judge with the Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court. She received her B.S. and J.D. from Loyola University of the South respectively. Judge Konrad was engaged in the private practice of law in Jefferson Parish for 15 years prior to being elected to the Juvenile Court bench in 1980. She was the first woman to serve in a parish wide elected office in Jefferson Parish. Judge Konrad served as Chairperson of the Louisiana Children's Code Project. This committee constructed a comprehensive children's code out of bits and pieces of laws affecting children, which were originally scattered through eighty-nine separate titles and codes. This committee ultimately enacted the Louisiana Children's Code into law at the 1991 Regular Session of the Legislature.

Judge Konrad currently serves on the Louisiana State Law Institute Children's Code Revision Committee, which continues to meet to complete the reserved titles and consider major revisions to existing law. Judge Konrad served on the Ad Hoc Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and is currently involved with the work of the Juvenile Justice Implementation Commission and its subcommittees. The Commission is working to implement juvenile justice reform in Louisiana pursuant to legislation passed by the Louisiana Legislature 2003 term.

Judge Konrad is presently a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, the Jefferson Parish Bar Association, American Bar Association, the American Judges Association, the 4th and 5th Circuit Judges Associations, the National Council of Juvenile & Family Court Judges, the National Association of Women Judges, the Louisiana Association of Elected Women, the United Way Women's Leadership Initiative Governing Body, the Loyola University New Orleans School of Law Visiting Committee, and the Ursuline Academy Board of Trustees. She is the current Treasurer and past President (1988-89) of the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges Association. She formerly served on the Louisiana Children's Cabinet and chaired the Louisiana Children's Cabinet Advisory Board.

Judge Konrad was the 1993 recipient of the Loyola University Adjutor Hominum Award, the 1999 Judge Richard Ware Award (Louisiana Children's Trust Fund), the 1999 Families in Need of Services Award, the 1999 Champion for Children Award (Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana), 2000 Public Elected Official of the Year (Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers) 2003 Judge of the Year (Louisiana CASA Association), 2004 Distinguished Jurist (Louisiana Bar Foundation).
