Hon. Andrea Price Janzen, Judge, Section B, Chief Judge

Judge Andrea Price Janzen was elected in July of 1996, to Section "B" of the Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court. Prior to being elected Judge, Judge Janzen had been an Assistant District Attorney in Jefferson Parish since 1982. As a prosecutor, Judge Janzen served as an assistant in the Juvenile Court from 1983 to 1988, where she prosecuted thousands of Child Abuse, Delinquency and Child Support Cases. In 1989, Judge Janzen created the Felony Child Abuse Prosecution Unit of the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office. As Supervisor of that division, she was involved in the prosecution of hundreds of felony cases involving child victims. She has prosecuted child sex abuse cases in Grand Jury Proceedings, and has prosecuted major child abuse cases.
Judge Janzen has conducted numerous workshops and lectured on Juvenile and Child Abuse Laws for many professional groups. She has lectured for the National Conference of Juvenile Justice; the Louisiana Conference on Child Abuse; the National and Louisiana Associations of District Attorneys; the American Academy of Pediatrics; the American Psychological Association; Family Services Society of Greater New Orleans; the Office of Community Services; Jefferson Parish Police Academy; the Governor's Conference of Juvenile Justice; Loyola University Law School - Juvenile Law Seminar; LSU Medical School Department of Psychiatry and the Law; various civic and educational groups throughout the New Orleans area, and numerous other groups.
Prior to her election, Judge Janzen was President of the Board of Directors of the Jefferson Children's Advocacy Center. She was a member of the Louisiana Children's Code Committee and of the Jefferson Parish Inter Agency Task Force. She is currently a member of numerous Judicial Organizations, including the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; the American Judicature Society, and the Association of Women Judges. She serves on the board of directors for both the 4th and 5th Circuit Judges Associations, the Jefferson Community School, and the Loyola University School of Law Alumni. She is a past board member of A Child's Wish of Greater New Orleans and the Jefferson Twenty-five Political Organization for Women.
Judge Janzen holds a J.D. degree from Loyola University Law School and a B.A. in Drama and Communications from the University of New Orleans. She is a graduate of St. Mary's Dominican High School.
